Crew Dragon carries astronauts to orbit

On the afternoon of 30 May 2020, the NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley lifted off from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, at 15:22 local time, aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon on top of a Falcon 9 rocket. The mission, Demo-2, was the spacecraft's first flight with people on board: a test flight to the International Space Station.
No astronaut had been launched into orbit from the United States since the last Space Shuttle mission, in July 2011. Hurley had been the pilot of that final flight. In the years between, crews had reached the station on Russian Soyuz rockets. Demo-2 was also the first time NASA astronauts flew in a spacecraft built and operated by a private company.
SpaceX controlled the launch from Firing Room 4 at Kennedy, the former control room of the Space Shuttle, on a pad that had sent Apollo crews to the Moon. Once in orbit, Crew Dragon was commanded from the company's mission control in Hawthorne, California, and it docked with the station the next day.
