Artemis I launches to the Moon
The moment this block marks: the liftoff of SLS from Launch Pad 39B at Kennedy, 01:47 in Florida, 16 November 2022, 06:47:00 UTC. The first block mined after it is block 763,390, 16 November 2022, 06:57:09 UTC.
In the middle of the night of 16 November 2022, at 01:47 Eastern time, the Space Launch System rose from Launch Pad 39B at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It was the first flight of the rocket, which NASA described as the most powerful in the world, and the first time it flew with the Orion spacecraft on top. Nobody was on board: Artemis I was a test, meant to prove the whole system in deep space before astronauts would trust it.
The plan was to send Orion some 64,000 kilometres beyond the Moon and bring it home over about 25 and a half days. The solid rocket boosters fell away after two minutes, the core stage after eight, and about an hour and a half into the flight the upper stage fired for some eighteen minutes to push Orion out of Earth orbit. On 11 December, after its trip around the Moon, the capsule splashed down in the Pacific.
Block 763,390 was mined ten minutes after liftoff. By then the core stage had shut down and separated, and Orion, still joined to the upper stage, was coasting in its first orbit; its solar arrays had not yet begun to unfold. Its hash, like every hash, can be checked on any node.
